Movies, as much as music, are special during the holiday season. I think we all take away different lessons from these movies. And they invoke different memories of years gone. They bring a smile and warmth that you just don’t get from other movie genres.
For this post, I’m going to define a Christmas movie as one where the events revolve around the winter holidays. If the holidays, are just a side note to the plot, it is not a holiday movie.
Using this definition, I need to take two great films off the list. Die Hard and Trading Places are not Christmas movies. Sorry folks.
There are so many great holiday movies, I tried to whittle down the list to just 4. But for goodness sake, it was just too difficult. Instead, I’m giving you my top 6.
At Number 6: Elf
Will Ferrell can be a little over the top, but a fun movie non the less.
Number 5: Fred Clause
When your brother is one of the biggest gift givers, how do you match up? This is a nice different perspective on the Santa story.
Number 4: A Christmas Carol(the Patrick Stewart version)
Because you just need to love Patrick Stewart.
Number 3: Miracle on 34th St.
How wondrous is the heart of a child.
Number 2: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
From Clark terrorizing the neighbors with his holiday spirit, to Cousin Eddie’s shenanigans, and Aunt Bethany reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, this movie is an ALL TIME GREAT.
Number 1: It’s A Wonderful Life
It’s little surprise that this movie is at the top of the list. What a gift it would be to know how much we’ve impacted the lives of others.
Honorable mentions:
