“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” — W.B. Yeats
There’s something comforting about the idea that magic doesn’t disappear, we just get too busy to notice it.
Yeats wasn’t talking about spells or sorcery. He was talking about awareness. About that invisible thread that connects you to the ordinary moments that quietly hum with life if you take the time to see them. The coffee steam curling in morning light. The sound of your child’s laugh echoing from another room. The way a breeze can shift your entire mood.
We lose this awareness so easily. Life pulls us toward what’s loud, urgent, and blinking. We stop noticing what’s real because it doesn’t demand our attention the same way. But Yeats’ words remind us that the world hasn’t stopped being magical, we just need to re-tune our senses to its frequency.
This week, I had one of those small “magic moments.” My daughter tried on her Halloween costume for the first time. She twirled, adjusted, and looked in the mirror like she was meeting herself for the first time. That quiet awe, that’s the kind of moment that restores something in you. It doesn’t need to be documented. It doesn’t need likes or views. It just needs to be felt.
Magic doesn’t always arrive in big, cinematic ways. Sometimes it’s as subtle as a shadow moving across the wall or the sound of rain on your car roof when you’re parked and not rushing anywhere. The world keeps offering these moments, patient, generous, persistent, hoping we’ll pause long enough to accept them.
The truth is, sharpening your senses isn’t about trying harder. It’s about softening. Paying attention with gentleness instead of urgency. Looking up instead of scrolling down. It’s reminding yourself that every ordinary day carries something extraordinary inside it, waiting to be seen.
So today, don’t go searching for magic. Just let it find you.
