Sometimes a few words are enough to shift the way we see the day.
This line from Through the Looking-Glass flips the idea of memory on its head. We think of memory as a rearview mirror—reflecting what’s behind us. But what if memory could also be forward-facing? What if we could remember things as they’re happening or even before they happen?
I think that’s what kids are better at than adults. They’re not storing moments for later—they’re living them fully now. Watching my 4-year-old creep downstairs with her pillow and stuffed animals wasn’t just a sweet moment. It was one of those living memories. I knew, right then, “This is one I’ll never forget.”
