Sometimes a few words are enough to shift the way we see the day.
This one hits like a quiet truth bomb.
Sartre’s not saying solitude is bad—he’s saying if being alone feels unbearable, it might be because you haven’t made peace with the person who shows up in that silence: yourself.
I’ve had seasons where being alone felt like punishment. But over time, I started finding tiny joys in it: the way morning light hits the coffee cup, the way thoughts get clearer when no one else is around. Solitude can be loud at first—but if you stay long enough, it starts speaking a gentler language.
Being in good company with yourself is one of the best investments you can make.
