“He who does not enjoy solitude will not love freedom.” — Arthur Schopenhauer
Sometimes a few words are enough to shift the way we see the day.
There’s a difference between being alone and being lonely, and this quote puts a spotlight right on it. The more comfortable we are in solitude, the more we can truly appreciate what it means to be free—not just free from responsibilities or noise, but free within ourselves.
Solitude isn’t about escape—it’s about return. When the house is finally quiet and I can hear my own thoughts again (and not just hear “Bluey” in the background), something softens inside me. That’s where ideas live. That’s where peace has room to stretch its legs.
This is one of those truths that doesn’t feel urgent until it’s missing. When I’m constantly surrounded by noise, tasks, people needing things, I can’t feel free—even if technically I’m doing whatever I want. But when I carve out that tiny bit of stillness? It feels like the world widens.
