Every day brings something new to learn—whether it’s a deep life lesson or the realization that the “clean” laundry has been sitting in the washer since last night. In today’s Thought of the Day and Question of the Day, we unpack the classroom of everyday life and decide just how we’d like to make our escape. So if you’ve ever felt like life’s moving too slow… or just needs a soundtrack by Gladys Knight, stick around.
🧠 Thought of the Day: Every day is a school day.
I’ve always liked this one. “Every day is a school day.” It’s simple, true, and often delivered with a smirk, usually right after I’ve done something painfully avoidable, like sending a text to the wrong group chat. Again.
But it’s also a quiet little gem of wisdom. Because if you’re paying attention, life will teach you. The tuition is free, but the homework? Oh, it’s relentless. From parenting lessons (apparently, “because I said so” stops working at around age five) to relationship wisdom (silence can be golden, but not when your spouse asks what’s wrong and you say “nothing”), the classroom is always in session.
The trick is staying teachable. It’s easy to tune out or go on autopilot. But the moment you assume you’ve learned it all is the moment you stop growing—and start repeating the same “oops” in increasingly expensive ways.

🚂 Question of the Day: Would you rather be on a slow boat to China or on a Midnight Train to Georgia?
The older I get, the more I love a question that sounds like a riddle and feels like a vibe.
On the surface, it’s just two poetic travel options. But dig deeper, and it’s really about pace and place. Would you rather drift slowly toward a far-off goal, or rush back home under cover of night to reclaim something you lost?
Personally, I’ve had days that felt like both. Some seasons of my life have been slow boat seasons—meandering, uncertain, full of waves and waiting. Other times, I’ve heard the metaphorical conductor shout “all aboard,” and I’ve had to make the midnight train decision—fast, messy, fueled by heart.
The slow boat is about patience and discovery. The midnight train? That’s soul. That’s urgency. That’s knowing where you belong and being willing to ride through the dark to get there.
Or, we were talking about old sayings at work, and someone mentioned “a slow boat to China”. I decided to pair that boat with Gladys Knight and the Pips, and now we have slow boats and midnight trains.
If this kind of question gets your wheels turning, you might enjoy this one about the cost of a dream or this reflection on whether dusk or dawn speaks to you more.
