Welcome to today’s Thought of the Day and Question of the Day—your daily chance to pause, reflect, and maybe laugh at the absurdity of life (and Shark Week). Today we’re talking about magic, sensory awareness, and aquatic predators launching themselves out of the water like missiles. If you’ve ever felt like the world was more enchanted than it gets credit for, or if you’ve ever rooted for a diver to gently bop a shark on the nose—this one’s for you.
Thought of the Day:
“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” — W.B. Yeats
There’s something comforting about the idea that the magic is already here. We’re not waiting on it, it’s waiting on us.
Yeats knew what he was talking about. The “magic things” aren’t hidden behind a paywall or buried on some distant mountain. They’re in the way the light hits the trees just right on your walk. They’re in your kid’s laugh when they discover something for the first time (even if that something is putting a block in the toilet). They’re in the way a song hits you differently on the third listen.
The older I get, the more I realize the world hasn’t become less magical—I’ve just gotten noisier. Sharpening my senses often means quieting everything else. The magic is there. I just have to notice it.
If this resonates, you might like this post about finding peace in the chaos or your worst fears coming true at any moment. Magic sometimes hides in plain sight—or in our own thoughts.

Question of the Day:
What is your favorite thing about Shark Week?
Personally? It’s a tie between two things:
- The Great Whites breaching the surface like they’re trying out for Sea World’s version of “Top Gun.”
- Divers slapping sharks in the nose like, “No sir, not today.”
There’s a strange kind of joy in Shark Week. It taps into that primal fascination we have with creatures that could eat us. But there’s also a weird sense of safety, because you’re watching from your couch, covered in Goldfish cracker dust, feeling brave and informed.
Shark Week reminds me that the ocean is still wild and unexplored. It makes me feel like a kid again, flipping through an animal encyclopedia, convinced I’d become a marine biologist. It also makes me laugh at how serious the narration gets. “And now…the apex predator strikes.” Cue the Jaws music and a slow-motion seal dummy flying through the air.
If you’ve ever wondered which shark would be the worst to hang out with at a bar, or how many types of sharks you can name on the spot, you’re not alone. We’re all just land mammals doing our best to avoid apex predators and enjoy Discovery Channel marathons.
