Someday soon, I hope to be in a place where I donāt need to worry about the next paycheck or dread checking the mail for fear of finding another bill that we canāt pay.
I long for simpler days where I can sit, and read or write. Perhaps even do a sketch better than a 4 year old childās stick figure. Time to just sit in a swing on the back porch, eating an apple off the knife blade while I watch my child run and play in the yard.
I can picture it Iām my mindās eye. The summer sun giving way to a sudden downpour of rain. First a dry dust bursting into the air as the rain hits the ground. And as suddenly as the rain had arrived, the parched land turns to mud. My child splashing around for a moment before running on to the porch where a wet hug turns into tickles and laughter.
That is what Iām envisioning for the future. When does this future arrive is my question?
Itās not tomorrow that is for certain.
First off, my child has not been born yet. Thatās going to change any day. (literally, my wife is due Sept 24, 2019)
Secondly, no one is dropping an armored car full of cash on my front lawn any time soon. Itās also not my front lawn, we just rent it.
Still weāre managing because weāre not taking any thing for granted. There is nothing guaranteed to us in this life, except that we get to choose how we want to live. We can choose to run around jumping from one thing to the next. Or we can choose to take it easy and enjoy the ride. We can choose to keep calm or we can explode like a broken pressure cooker.
I want a slower paced life because, after trial and error, I have found that is the life that suits me best. It might not be right for you and itās OK that we choose to live different.
Donāt bemoan the bad times. They are there to help you find your best time. Be grateful for the lessons and keep going until you can find your rocking chair on the back porch.
