Each September, for the last 19 years, our country has approached September with somber remembrance. We pause and think about the events of September 11 and the weeks following.
Today, in 2020, things are strange and different.
Much like the days after the attacks, our country is besieged by enemies both seen and unseen. This time in the form of Civil unrest and Covid-19. People are afraid, confused, and angry.
While we fight through the many difficulties, I urge you to remember the people who searched the rubble at ground zero for survivors. Remember the first responders who rushed into terror and the volunteers who spent weeks on scene doing whatever they could to support each other. Remember the surge of pride that we felt with American Flags flying high everywhere.
Remember the Doctors and Nurses. The patients on respirators and the families who have lost everything.
Remember we are all struggling with things that others can’t even imagine.
These past few months have changed the world forever just like the events of September 11 changed the world. I am confident our country will come through these times stronger than it was before.
Be kind and lend a hand.
We believed we would come together then and I believe we will come together now.
