Let’s be real—mine is, “I’ve got an early meeting.” No one questions it. No one probes. It’s the adult version of “My dog ate my homework,” but with slightly more calendar credibility.
But sometimes questions like this tell us more than we expect.
Why do we feel the need to make an excuse instead of just saying “I don’t want to”? Is it guilt? People-pleasing? Or is it just good manners wrapped in a socially acceptable fib?
We all need permission sometimes to just not do the thing. Maybe this is yours. Or maybe it’s your chance to upgrade your excuse list.
