For me, it’s sweat and sunscreen.
Not exactly poetic, but it’s honest. One whiff of SPF 50 and I’m transported to every sticky summer afternoon spent chasing kids around the yard or falling asleep under an umbrella with a book I swore I’d finish.
But sometimes questions like this tell us more than we expect.
Smell is memory’s secret doorway. It skips logic and goes straight to feeling. Fresh-cut grass, charcoal grills, chlorine, citronella candles—pick your poison. Mine’s that unmistakable combo of salty skin, sunblock, and the faint regret of forgetting to reapply.
The human nose might not be as strong as a dog’s, but emotionally? It’s a time machine. So if you catch a scent that takes you back to bike rides, fireflies, or sleepaway camp heartbreak—follow it. There’s a memory worth revisiting.
