December 4, 2025
There is something strange and hilarious about the songs we attach to certain months of the year. December especially. December music is not the same as regular music. It carries nostalgia, memory, chaos, comfort, and a little bit of emotional glitter. Today’s Question of the Day asks what song you look forward to every December. And my answer might surprise you or make you roll your eyes, depending on the type of person you are. I look forward to Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses.
It is not elegant. It is not classic. It is not a soaring choir or a gentle piano piece or something that plays softly in the background of a candlelit dinner. It is an early eighties track about two people who cannot get their timing right until they bump into each other on Christmas Eve over last minute groceries. But that is exactly why I love it.
December is a chaotic month. We pretend it is full of magic, but often it is full of errands, traffic, late nights, wrapping paper, and a level of stress that tries to disguise itself as festivity. Christmas Wrapping matches that vibe perfectly. It feels like December in song form. Slightly frantic. Slightly hopeful. A little offbeat. And somehow it all works out in the end.
I also know myself well enough to admit I like the oddballs. The songs that are not trying too hard. The ones that do not demand anything from me. That is probably why this one rises above the rest for me. It does not expect perfection. It does not care if I am behind on everything. It just shows up and does its thing.
So today I am choosing honesty over cool points. The song I look forward to each December is Christmas Wrapping. If you judged me just now, that is fine. If you agreed with me, welcome home. And if you have never heard it, give it a shot. You might find that it carries the December feeling better than anything else.
