What is your favorite summer movie?
Let’s be real—Independence Day is my answer and I will not be accepting criticism at this time. The aliens, the fireworks, the speech? It’s a red-white-and-boom classic.
But sometimes questions like this tell us more than we expect. Your favorite summer movie isn’t just about the film—it’s about you. Where you were when you first saw it. Who you were with. How it made you feel.
For me, Independence Day was a yearly tradition. A VHS tape worn thin. A film that didn’t just scream “summer”—it saluted it. There’s something powerful about that pre-battle speech Bill Pullman gives. Is it over-the-top? Of course. But that’s the point. It’s summer. We’re allowed to go big.
Maybe for you it’s The Sandlot or Grease or even The Parent Trap. Maybe it’s Jaws, which just turned 50 years old and still has us afraid of the deep end. Whatever it is, your pick says something about what kind of summer you’re nostalgic for—chill, chaotic, adventurous, romantic, or full of baseball and backyard fireworks.
