Some people dread chores like they’re cruel punishments handed down from the universe. But I’ve come to find a strange peace in them, especially folding laundry.
There’s something calming about it. The smell of clean clothes, the warmth from the dryer, the rhythm of folding one shirt after another. It’s one of the few times I can be productive and quiet at the same time. No screens. No talking. No noise (except the occasional rogue sock static-clinging for dear life).
It’s almost meditative, a small, daily way of creating order out of chaos. And maybe that’s why it feels good. So much of life refuses to fold neatly, but here’s something that actually does.
Everyone has their own version of that peace. For some, it’s mowing the lawn and seeing straight lines appear in the grass. For others, it’s doing the dishes until the sink shines. Maybe for you, it’s vacuuming those satisfying little carpet lines like you’re erasing the day.
Whatever it is, there’s value in finding calm in the repetitive. A quiet sense of control in a world that often feels anything but controlled.
So yeah — folding laundry might not be exciting, but it’s steady. And sometimes, steady beats exciting by a long shot.
