Goodwill is one of those words that sounds like it belongs in an old-timey Christmas carol. “Peace on Earth, goodwill toward men.” But in real life, goodwill isn’t wrapped in holiday lights. It’s much simpler and much harder.
Goodwill looks like waving someone into traffic when you’d rather speed past them. It looks like picking up the phone to call a friend who’s been quiet too long. It looks like not rolling your eyes when your kid tells you for the 14th time that knock-knock joke you already know the punchline to.
Sometimes, goodwill is as ordinary as returning the grocery cart to the corral instead of leaving it stranded in the middle of the parking lot (yes, I’m judging if you don’t).
The truth is, goodwill usually shows up in small, visible ways that tell people, “I see you, and I’m not here to make life harder for you.” And the real kicker? It usually costs you nothing.
