Every year, there’s a moment, usually when I see the first snowflake fall and realize I still haven’t done half the things I meant to do before it got cold. The patio furniture is still out. The half-read book is still half-read. The “I’ll do that before winter” list starts to look like a seasonal comedy routine.
But this question isn’t just about chores. It’s about closure. About what deserves to be finished before everything slows down.
Before the snow comes, I want to finish what I started, not necessarily because it matters to the world, but because it matters to me. I want to close loops that don’t need to hang open until next year. Tie the small knots. Answer the lingering texts. Empty the mental tabs.
And maybe, most of all, I want to finish giving myself permission to rest. To sit in the stillness that winter brings without guilt gnawing at me about all the things left undone.
Snow has this funny way of forcing perspective. It covers the chaos and hushes the noise. If you haven’t noticed, snow never rushes. It falls when it’s ready, and when it does, the world listens.
So what do I want to finish before the first snow? The pretending. The pacing. The waiting for some imaginary “perfect moment” to act. I’d rather make the moment now, before the snow buries the chance.
