I check the fridge.
You know… just in case the answer is in there behind the string cheese and last night’s leftovers.
But seriously—when I realize I’ve lost my way, the urge to “do something” kicks in strong. Fix it, fast. Get back on track. Don’t let anyone know you’re wandering around without a clue. Maybe if I walk with enough confidence, no one will ask where I’m going.
But that’s the thing about losing your way: it’s humbling. Sometimes you don’t even notice it right away. You’re halfway down a path before you realize you don’t remember choosing it. And that’s when the real question kicks in—not just “Where am I?” but “Why was I heading there in the first place?”
When I really want to reset, I pause. Not forever. Just long enough to let the noise settle. Sometimes I journal. Sometimes I take a walk without a podcast. Sometimes I just stare at the ceiling and admit that I don’t have it all figured out.
Some of my best course corrections started as moments where I simply said, “This isn’t it.”
