It’s a movie I don’t go out of my way to watch… but if I see it while flipping through channels, I’ll stop. And yeah, I’ll hang around for the Marisa Tomei scene. You know the one.
But sometimes questions like this tell us more than we expect.
It’s not just about My Cousin Vinny. It’s about comfort movies. Background noise. That perfect level of entertaining-but-not-demanding. The kind of thing that feels oddly satisfying to rewatch even though you’ve seen it fifteen times and could quote the dialogue by heart if someone paid you (but no one ever does).
The truth? It’s funny, but not always my kind of funny. Joe Pesci is a lot. Some of the gags feel like they were written in all caps. But I get why people love it. It’s like a big warm meatball of a movie: familiar, a little messy, and somehow still satisfying.
If you love it, I get it. If you’re over it, I get that too. I land somewhere in the middle. Like watching it through a hotel room TV at 11:47 PM kind of middle.
