I’ll admit it: sometimes, I feel like life is one long chain of notifications, chores, and half-finished coffee. The day starts, the day ends, and somewhere in the middle, I’m supposed to figure out who’s actually running the show, me or the chaos.
When life is happening to you, it feels like you’re in the backseat of your own car. You’re reacting to red lights, dodging potholes, and pretending the GPS knows where it’s going. But when you’re happening to life, you’re in the driver’s seat, music up, windows down, choosing your own destination.
The tricky part is that it doesn’t take much to slip from one mode to the other. A busy week, a few tough breaks, a sick kid, suddenly, you’re just reacting again. That’s normal. But staying there? That’s a choice.
The best way I’ve found to “happen” to life is through small acts of intention. Saying no to things that drain me. Saying yes to things that scare me. Stopping long enough to notice that the day is mine to shape, not just survive.
So today, I’m checking in with myself, and with you. Are we steering the wheel, or are we just being driven around by circumstance?
