Today’s Question of the Day asks what small thing makes you irrationally angry. For me, it is clutter.
Not massive messes. Not disasters. Just everyday clutter. A random shoe where no shoe should be. Papers on the counter that no one claims. A toy placed exactly where my tired foot will land.
These tiny things hit me harder when I am tired or stretched thin, which is most days right now. The anger is not about the object. It is about the interruption. It is about one more thing on a day already full of things.
When I wroteWhen Anger Makes Us Stupid and Christmas Makes It Worse, I talked about how it is rarely the big problem that makes us snap. It is the final little straw that lands on a pile we were already struggling to hold.
Clutter is my straw. Maybe yours is loud chewing, people who block the aisle with their cart, or the person who leaves exactly one square of toilet paper on the roll like they have mastered the art of denial.
Whatever your thing is, naming it helps. Saying it out loud removes some of its power. It reminds you that the frustration is not about the object at all. It is about the weight you were already carrying.
