Some days, the Thought of the Day and Question of the Day hit like poetry and punchlines at the same time. Today is one of those days. We’re talking about letting go of what’s meant to move on, and facing the drain—because ignoring it doesn’t stop the swirl.
Let’s dig into what belongs in the sea, and what might already be halfway down the pipe.
Thought of the Day: Don’t give something to the river that belongs in the sea.
I love this line. It sounds ancient, like something whispered around a fire by someone who knows loss better than comfort. It reminds me that not everything is meant to stay close. Not everything is mine to hold. And sometimes we confuse “drifting away” with “being taken from us.”
The river isn’t the end—it’s the in-between. And holding onto something too long, trying to keep it upstream, is exhausting. Sometimes we have to admit: this dream, this season, this version of ourselves… it’s not meant to stay. It’s meant to go deeper. Farther. Freer.
To the sea.
I’ve tried to keep things in the river that were destined for more—and I’ve drowned a little in the process. People. Projects. Roles that no longer fit but still felt familiar. But when I finally let go? Peace. Not immediately. Not perfectly. But eventually.
🌀 Question of the Day: What part of your life is circling the drain the fastest?
Oof. This question doesn’t pull punches. It hits you where you’ve been avoiding eye contact. Me? Right now, it’s my sense of balance.
I used to be pretty good at juggling priorities—family, writing, work, occasional self-care. Lately? Feels like I’m juggling chainsaws blindfolded while riding a unicycle in a hurricane. Something always falls. Usually me.
It’s humbling to admit when something’s slipping. But maybe it’s not a sign of failure. Maybe it’s just gravity doing its job—reminding us that we only have so much energy, and some things were never meant to be held forever.
The trick is figuring out what’s worth saving… and what needs to circle the drain so we can make room.
