A few weeks ago in a post I titled, The First of Quarantine Entries, I wrote how “I refuse to call it the “new normal”. “
What I wrote previously, I hold true to,(read it here) but I have come to enjoy other things that have become my family’s normal. Things I didn’t even know I was missing have become some of my biggest joys these days.
Since we have been home, we eat dinner at the kitchen table. We turn off the television while we eat. We play games and we laugh hard. We bake and take walks around our neighborhood. We make an effort to call friends and family on a regular basis.
I find myself being friendlier when I’m out and about. I smile(under my mask) and I make it a point to thank every single employee who I come in contact with. “Thank you for being here and working hard. Stay healthy.”, is my standard line.
That simple thank you, means so much to those workers. I know because they on more than one occasion, they have told me how much it means to them.
I know that I am blessed with a relatively easy day to day life right now. I have heard some horrible things. And I do pray for those folks every day. But for me, I’m happy I’ve been able to reconnect with a simpler life and I will work to continue it.
While I don’t want my new normal to be about wearing masks and worrying that someone is standing too close. I do want to keep building the bonds and routines we are creating.
What good things have become part of your new normal?
