Question and Thought for the Day January 30, 2025

Thought of the Day:Gentlemen, You Can’t Fight in Here! This is the War Room!
Dr. Strangelove gave us one of the most brilliantly absurd lines in cinematic history. A group of high-ranking officials, supposedly the best and brightest, completely losing their composure in a room meant for strategy and diplomacy. It’s a perfect snapshot of how people—especially those in power—can get so caught up in their own nonsense that they forget the bigger picture.
And honestly, isn’t that how bad movies happen? Somewhere along the way, a good idea gets lost in bad decisions, studio meddling, or sheer incompetence. You can see the potential buried beneath the wreckage, but what you get is a disaster instead of a masterpiece.
Which brings me to today’s Question of the Day:
What’s a terrible movie you wish would get remade and made better?
We’ve all been there—watching a movie with a killer premise, only to realize it’s a trainwreck. Maybe the writing was awful, the acting was painful, or the CGI looked like it was done on a 2003 Dell laptop. But deep down, you know that with the right team, that same movie could be incredible.
For me, it’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003). A movie that had everything going for it—steampunk aesthetics, literary icons teaming up, Sean Connery. And yet, it somehow managed to be completely forgettable. The action was bland, the dialogue was wooden, and the CGI? Let’s just say I’ve seen better graphics in a PS2 cutscene.
But imagine a modern remake. Picture a director like Guillermo del Toro bringing that gothic, high-adventure energy to the story. Imagine sharper writing, a compelling villain, and a cast that actually gets to have fun with their characters. It could be epic—instead of something we pretend never happened.
So what’s your pick? A sci-fi misfire? A horror movie with wasted potential? A comedy that tried too hard and flopped?
Drop your thoughts in the comments. Let’s give these bad movies the second chance they deserve.
