Today’s Thought of the Day and Question of the Day dive into the messy art of trying and the stylish science of choosing what’s on your feet. Let’s see where these ideas take us—and if they’re worth doing badly (spoiler: they probably are).

Thought of the Day: If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing badly. — G.K. Chesterton
This one always makes me laugh a little because it flies in the face of that old “if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well” mantra. But Chesterton was onto something here. Sometimes, the only way to do something well is to be willing to do it badly first. That first wobbly attempt at painting, the awkward early days of learning a new skill, or the cringe of hearing your own voice on a recording—these are the badge-of-honor moments that show you’re at least showing up.
For me, writing these daily posts started out exactly like that. I wasn’t sure if anyone was even reading them, let alone if they were “good enough.” But I figured if it was worth doing, it was worth doing… even if it was a bit rough around the edges. And honestly, I’m glad I kept going, because each time I show up, it feels a little more natural.
If this idea of starting imperfectly resonates with you, you might enjoy a past post I wrote: If you can’t hit the target, eventually you stop throwing the darts. . Another good one? The Price tag of dreams. Sometimes, the best way to begin is just… to begin.

Question of the Day: What is your favorite brand or type of sneakers/shoes?
Let’s get real. The thing we put on our feet every morning says a lot about us—whether we like it or not. My go-to? Low top Converse Chuck Taylors. There’s something about the classic look that just works for me. They’re versatile, a little bit scrappy, and comfortable enough to carry me through a day of chasing my kids around or heading to a last-minute coffee meeting.
I’m always curious about what people swear by when it comes to shoes. Do you stick to a tried-and-true brand? Rotate between different pairs depending on your mood? Or maybe you’re still looking for that perfect pair that feels just right.
If you’re into this sort of daily question, check out some of the other ones I’ve asked lately: What sound do you look forward to each Spring? and How often do you laugh on any given day?. They’re all about discovering the little (and not-so-little) details that make us who we are.
