The Christmas season is full of traditions that we cherish. Sometimes, those old traditions need to make way for new ones. One great way to bring people together when they physically can’t be, is a scavenger hunt.
Scavenger Hunts can be done in all manor of ways. You can do a home hunt via your favorite online meeting site like zoom or google meet. How about a neighborhood hunt looking for holiday lights? Maybe you want to do one with just your household. In that case, you can use clues to have the everyone hunt down their gifts.
Here are some tips to get started.
- Make your list ahead of time – Create a list of items for people to look for (see some suggested items below in the element section). Try to create a mix of practical items and creative hunting items.
- Guidelines – Make sure everyone knows all the basics: the time limit, the geographic search area, and how they need to prove they’ve found what they were looking for. (I suggest photos if you’re having people run around town. You might have trouble fitting an 8Ft plastic frosty in your car.)
- How to Win – Decide if the winner is based on who comes in first or if you want to have a point system. Let people know the rules and prizes before they engage in the hunt. Points could make things more interesting, for neighborhood adult hunts. Make sure the judging method is impartial.
- For virtual hunts – give people a short time limit like 30-60 seconds to find items around their homes and bring them to the screen.
Have fun, be creative, make these Scavenger Hunts a new tradition each ant every year.
