Question and Thought for the Day February 14, 2025
Question of the Day: How did you and your significant other meet?
Thought of the Day: Happiness, that’s not present at the start of a journey will usually not be present at its end.
We’ve all been guilty of saying it. I’ll be happy when… When I get the promotion. When I buy the house. When the kids are older. When life finally slows down. The problem? “Someday” is a moving target, and happiness that isn’t present at the start of the journey usually won’t be there at the end.
The Illusion of Future Happiness
We trick ourselves into believing that happiness is a prize waiting for us once we check off enough boxes. But if we’re not content along the way, why would that change once we reach the milestone? If anything, we just shift our focus to the next goal, thinking this will be the one that finally makes us feel complete.
Instead of banking on happiness appearing later, it’s worth asking: What if happiness isn’t something we achieve but something we cultivate along the way?
How to Find Happiness in the Process
- Redefine Success – If success is only about outcomes, then every step before the finish line feels like failure. But if success includes the lessons, growth, and experiences along the way, happiness becomes a daily companion.
- Savor the Small Wins – Too often, we downplay progress because we’re so fixated on the big goal. Recognizing and celebrating small victories makes the journey more fulfilling.
- Be Present in the Now – Life doesn’t begin when you hit a goal. It’s happening now. If you’re too focused on the future, you miss the best parts of today.
- Choose Gratitude Over Comparison – Someone else’s highlight reel isn’t your measuring stick. Gratitude shifts focus from what’s missing to what’s already abundant.
- Invest in People, Not Just Goals – Achievements feel hollow without meaningful relationships. The moments shared with loved ones often outshine any professional or financial milestone.

Love and the Journey
Since today’s Question of the Day is about how you and your significant other met, think back to that first moment. Did you know right away? Did it take time? Was the journey unexpected?
Just like relationships, happiness doesn’t arrive all at once. It grows through shared experiences, laughter, challenges, and the in-between moments that don’t seem big at the time but turn out to be the ones you cherish most.
Final Thought
If happiness is missing from the journey, it’ll be missing at the destination, too. The real question isn’t “Will I be happy when I get there?” but “Am I happy getting there?”
Wherever you are on your path, make sure happiness is packed for the trip.
