Describe your parents. What do you love about them?
You caught me at a good time in my life so I have a bounty of great things to say about them. In my late teens, I probably had some negative things to say about them – if I did say anything, I was completely wrong.
I love my parents and I don’t tell them that enough.I’m getting better but sharing those feelings is not something we were taught growing up.
In retrospect, everything they did was for the love of their family.
Mom stayed home and took care of the kids, the house, and the meals. Dad did must of the rest of day to day living.Mowing the lawn, fixing the cars, and shoveling the snow. But they collaborated on many other projects. When the renovated our home, both dug in and did what needed to be done. The both sanded, spackled and painted among other things,
Together, they found a way to send all 4 of us to Catholic Grammar and High School. They saved when they could and found ways to make extra money when they need to.
The also made our family feel loved. Dad coached all of us kids in at least 1 sport. Mom came to all the games to show support even when dad wasn’t the coach. So many hours volunteering, I really appreciated all they did. They gave us our best life growing up and I hope I can do that for my soon to be child.
My parents are salt of the earth type. Good Catholics who go to Church every Sunday and Holy Day. They pray before meals and are willing to help any one who comes to them with a need.
They taught me how to do so many everyday tasks that get taken for granted. How to change my car oil, change a tire, sew (enough to repair stuff), cook, and the list seems to go on forever… The most important lessons the tough me involved around love, marriage, and family.
I won the lottery with the childhood that I lived. I pray I can be half as good to my family as they have for me.
