Here is today’s Question of the Day:
Which wrist do you wear your watch on? Why?
It is not a deep question on the surface. It does not ask you to reflect on your childhood or your values or your regrets. It asks about something small. Something practical. Something you probably decided once and never thought about again.
And that is exactly why it matters.
Most of us have an answer, even if we have never articulated it. Convenience. Comfort. Habit. You might be right handed or left handed. You might have copied someone else years ago. You might not remember choosing at all.
But that is the interesting part.
There are countless decisions like this in our lives. The pocket we keep our phone in. The side of the bed we sleep on. The route we drive without thinking. None of them feel important on their own, but together they form the structure of our days.
I have worn my watch on my right wrist for as long as I can remember because I am predominantly left handed. It made sense. It still does. And yet lately I have been thinking about moving it to my left wrist for a while. Not because anything is wrong, but because I am curious what happens when I interrupt the autopilot.
Even a small disruption forces awareness. You notice the watch more. You notice your movement. You notice how often you rely on habit without questioning it.
This question is not really about watches. It is about noticing where else in your life something small might be running the show without being examined. And whether simply noticing it might change how it feels.
I explore this idea more fully in today’s combined reflection, Thought of the Day and Question of the Day: Pay Attention to the Small Things, which you can read here.
