I haven’t been on one yet, but I want to, badly.
Living close to Philadelphia, I’ve always wanted to visit Eastern State Penitentiary, one of the most famously haunted spots in the country. It’s a crumbling Gothic fortress that looks like it was built specifically for ghost stories. The place has this eerie silence that feels heavier than air, like the walls are holding their breath.
The idea fascinates me, walking through a space that holds so much history, tragedy, and mystery. There’s something humbling about that. Maybe ghost tours aren’t really about finding proof of spirits; maybe they’re about feeling the weight of stories that refuse to be forgotten.
And if ghosts are real? Then fine, let them have the night. I’ll be the one outside, waiting with a flashlight and a snack, thinking about how strange it is that humans pay money to chase fear in controlled doses. Maybe that’s why we love haunted houses and scary stories, they remind us we’re alive enough to be scared.
