Where’s the last place you’d want to be locked in overnight?
There are a lot of terrifying places you could choose. A dark forest. An old hospital. The DMV.
But I’m going with a coffin. Tight space, no light, and no idea whether you’re buried six feet under or roasting in the morning sun like a Pillsbury biscuit. Just the thought of it makes me want to start breathing deeply, and also to never, ever nap in a tanning bed.
It’s funny how this question hits a primal nerve. We all have different fears, but most of them tie back to the same few things: confinement, helplessness, isolation. It’s not about the place, it’s about what it represents.
A coffin isn’t just a box. It’s a metaphor for being trapped, by your job, your routine, your own thoughts. It’s the claustrophobia of knowing you’re stuck, even temporarily, in a space you didn’t choose. That’s the kind of fear that doesn’t need horror music, it just needs silence.
So yeah, I’ll pass on any scenario involving coffins, crypts, or even overly secure elevators. Give me a ghost any day. At least you can reason with a ghost.
