Question of the Day: What is an unusual mode of transportation that you would love to try?

“Unusual” is relative. What’s strange to me might be someone else’s Tuesday commute. For example, I’d love to ride in a rickshaw. In some places, that’s as common as hopping in an Uber. For me, though, it feels wonderfully odd and a little bit uncomfortable in the best way.

The other one on my list? A dog sled. There’s something about flying across snow, pulled by huskies who clearly love their job, that makes me think of both ancient survival and wild adventure. I can picture myself bundled up, grinning like a fool, while the dogs do all the real work. (Knowing my luck, though, I’d fall off the sled and they’d just keep going.)

That’s what I like about this question, it forces us out of our default transportation autopilot. Most days, I’m stuck in traffic, muttering at red lights, listening to the kids argue about who touched whose arm first. That’s not exactly adventure. But when I let my mind wander to unusual rides, gondolas in Venice, camel rides in the desert, maybe even a submarine, I remember there are so many different ways to move through the world.

And maybe that’s the deeper point: it’s not just about the ride itself, but about perspective. When you travel in a way that feels unusual, you notice things differently. You’re not zoning out on the same highway you’ve driven a thousand times, you’re wide awake, curious, and probably a little nervous. Which, honestly, sounds like a good way to live life in general.

So, if I had the chance, I’d hop in that rickshaw, or strap into a dog sled, or maybe both in the same day if I was really feeling adventurous. The point isn’t how unusual it is to anyone else, the point is it’d be unusual for me. And unusual often equals unforgettable.
