“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass… is by no means a waste of time.” — John Lubbock
Sometimes a few words are enough to shift the way we see the day.
This one did it for me.
Rest isn’t laziness. It’s oxygen. And lately, I’ve had to remind myself that pausing isn’t quitting—it’s recalibrating. Just because the world keeps spinning doesn’t mean I need to spin with it non-stop. Sometimes, lying in the grass and doing absolutely nothing is the most productive thing I can do.
Especially when I catch myself getting irrationally annoyed by things like slow walkers, noisy chewers, or someone breathing slightly too loud in my general direction. (That’s when I know: I’m due for a break.)
If I’m going to give anything my full attention—my work, my family, my life—I have to refill the tank first. Even if that just means closing my eyes under a tree for ten minutes. That counts. That matters. That restores.
