Today’s Thought of the Day and Question of the Day might seem like they’re pulling us in two different directions, but maybe they’re both about the same thing: the way we dream, ask, and laugh. Let’s dig into what this means and how these little daily prompts can make a big difference.
Thought of the Day – If You’re Only Asking for Things You Get, You’re Not Aiming High Enough
Here’s the truth: I’ve spent a lot of my life playing it safe. Asking for what I knew was possible, hoping to avoid the sting of rejection or disappointment. But here’s the kicker, those low-stakes asks usually left me right where I started: in the same spot, with the same limitations.
If you’re only asking for what you know you’ll get, you’re living in a box you built for yourself. It’s comfortable, sure, but it’s also stifling. The real magic happens when you start to stretch a little. When you ask for the thing that’s just beyond what you think you deserve. The thing that might make someone say no. Because that’s where possibility lives.
I’ve talked about this kind of self-expansion before in The cost of a dream. Sometimes, aiming high is about more than getting a yes, it’s about giving yourself permission to want more in the first place.

Question of the Day – What Is/Was Your Favorite Comic Strip?
This one takes me back. Saturday mornings, a bowl of cereal, and the comics section spread out like a personal treasure map. My go-to’s? The Far Side for the weird and wonderful, Hagar the Horrible for the slapstick, and of course, Calvin and Hobbes for the sheer joy and philosophy.
Calvin’s daydreams were often bigger than his reality, but he kept dreaming anyway. There’s a lesson there, no matter how small your stage (or how cardboard your cardboard box spaceship), you’ve got to keep pushing for something bigger. Kind of like our Thought of the Day, ask for more, even if it’s just in your imagination.
