Some days, the “Thought of the Day and Question of the Day” combo hits with surprising synchronicity—and today’s pair is a reminder that life is both more mysterious and more entertaining than we realize. In this post, I’m diving into what it means to deserve (or not deserve) the friends in our lives, and why the simple act of choosing what to watch tonight might say more about us than we think. If you’re looking for some honest reflection, a few laughs, and maybe a new perspective on your favorite shows (and friends), you’re in the right place.

Thought of the Day:
“I no doubt deserved my enemies, but I don’t believe I deserved my friends.” – Walt Whitman
This is one of those lines that gets under your skin, isn’t it? I read this and immediately started making a mental list of all the people who would gladly hand me a pie to the face… and then a second, much shorter list of people who’d hand me a towel afterward.
Whitman’s honesty here is refreshing—almost painfully so. It’s easy to look at the people who don’t like us and say, “Yeah, okay, maybe I brought that one on myself.” (See: my lifelong campaign to correct everyone’s grammar at family dinners.) But when it comes to friends? Sometimes, the generosity and kindness people offer us feels completely unearned. Why do these people stick around when they could be doing literally anything else, like cleaning their lint traps or alphabetizing their spice racks?
If you want more musings, you might enjoy my post “Never return by the same way you came.”, or this reflection: “We’re here on Earth to fart around”. Friendship isn’t about tallying points. It’s about being amazed, again and again, that someone chooses to be on your side—even after witnessing your dance moves at weddings.

Question of the Day:
What are you watching tonight?
If you tell me it’s “just whatever’s on,” I won’t believe you. Everyone has a TV show, movie, or YouTube rabbit hole they look forward to. Maybe it’s the comforting chaos of reality TV, a documentary that makes you feel smarter by osmosis, or the same sitcom episode you’ve watched fifty times because, well, comfort is underrated.
Honestly, every night during the week, I have one show that I tune in to. It might be Monday Night Raw(although it bugs me that it’s on Netflix because I can’t flip around during commercials), The Curse of Oak Island, or Beat Bobby Flay. It really just depends on the night of the week.
So what are you watching tonight—and what does it say about where your mind wants to go? If you’re hunting for more thought-provoking questions, don’t miss “What’s the fastest you’ve ever driven?” or “How long can you hold your breath?”—because sometimes, the little questions are really the big ones.
