Question and Thought for the Day March 11, 2025
Question of the Day: If you could become an insect, what would you choose to become?
Thought of the Day: Man suffers because he takes seriously what the gods made for fun. Alan Watts
“Man suffers because he takes seriously what the gods made for fun.” — Alan Watts
There’s something about life that feels a little too structured, a little too planned. We wake up, go to work, pay bills, stress over things we’ll forget about in a week, and repeat. But what if it’s all just a joke? Not in a cynical, “nothing matters” kind of way, but in a playful, “why not have fun with it?” kind of way.
Alan Watts had a way of making the absurdity of life feel like a cosmic playground rather than a prison. What if the things we stress about—the missed deadlines, awkward conversations, or even the bigger existential worries—were just the universe having a laugh? If life is a game, most of us are playing it way too seriously.
What Would You Be if You Were an Insect?
Since we’re talking about not taking things too seriously, here’s a fun question: If you could become an insect, what would you be?
Would you be a firefly, lighting up the night, giving people something to marvel at? Or a praying mantis, cool and calculated, moving with precision? Maybe you’d be a cockroach—because let’s be honest, no matter what happens, you’re surviving.
The insect you choose might say something about you. Fireflies bring joy, bees work tirelessly but make sweet things, and butterflies remind us that transformation is part of the journey. But more than anything, it’s a reminder that even in the smallest creatures, there’s something fascinating to appreciate.
Play the Game, But Don’t Let It Play You
Life will always throw challenges our way—bills still have to be paid, responsibilities still exist. But maybe we don’t have to carry them like a weight on our backs. Maybe we can carry them like a balloon, a little lighter, knowing that at the end of the day, none of us make it out alive, so we might as well enjoy the ride.
And hey, if you could be any insect, which one would you choose? Drop a comment—I’m curious.
