Last week, I read something about rocks and sword fights. How do you bring rocks to a sword fight and hope to win?
What I had read was one sentence, “David bought a rock to a sword fight.” It was a reference to the Biblical story of the shepherd boy David going out to face the giant Goliath in one-on-one battle.
Goliath was a behemoth. So big, we now use the term to describe something of enormous size. He was battle tested and the fighting champion of the Philistines.
The boy, David, knew his skills and he knew God was on his side. It didn’t matter the size of his opponent. And so, with a sling and a stone, David knocked out Goliath and then killed him.
David bought his sling and some rocks to a sword fight and won. Why?
David believed in God (as do I) and he went in to battle with confidence. He believed he would prevail.
Now I don’t know your beliefs but I do know this, your state of mind dramatically affects the outcome of any situation.
If you believe you will succeed, you’ve already won. If you think you are going to fail, you already have failed. If you believe there is a way, you will find it. You probably already have the skills to succeed, just like David did. So what’s stopping you from reaching for your dreams?
Can you win a gun fight with a knife or a sword fight with a rock? Yes, you can. I never said it would be easy, but it can be done.
Sometimes, I forget how much attitude affects everything. I see problems and I forget I have it it me to succeed as I’m sure you do. I hope this post serves as a reminder to us both. You have it in you to overcome any obstacle.
