Christmas movies come in all shapes and sizes. They tug at our heart strings and make us cry(It’s A Wonderful Life). Some are goofy(A Christmas Vacation), others remind us of the values we wish to embody (A Christmas Carol).
Growing up for me, these movies only aired during the holiday season making them precious commodities; so I took them in when I could get them. We all have our favorite movies and favorite scenes in those movies which we truly cherish.
In the spirit of sharing holiday joy, here are my top 6 favorite Christmas movie scenes.
6. The final speech in “Scrooged”
I think what gets me with this scene, is that it’s mixed with humor and shedding of hubris.
5. Aunt Bethany says Grace
In a movie filled with memorable scenes it’s tough to pick just one favorite. When Aunt Bethany is asked to give the blessing at a good old fashioned Christmas and she breaks into the Pledge of Allegiance, how can you go wrong.
4. Santa Sits on a throne of lies in “Elf”
A grown man dressed as an elf screaming at Santa in front of children, what’s not to love.
3. “Fred Claus” Bar dance scene.
This one has it all, Vince Vaughn, The Rolling Stones, a dancing elf, and Elizabeth Banks.
2. “A Christmas Carol” the Ghost of Christmas Past
Perhaps it is because we are reminded that each of us has the power to make each other happy or unhappy. Or joy and anger expressed.
1. Cousin Eddie and family arrive. “Christmas Vacation”
You didn’t think Bethany was going to be the only scene to make the list, did you?
Bonus Scene: A Great Gift
I had to include this scene from “It’s A Wonderful Life”. It’s a reminder that you are important in ways you can’t even imagine. Make every day count.
There you have it, six of my favorite holiday movie scenes plus a bonus. What scenes would you add to this list? Comment below.
