Let’s face it, the time between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day is the most wonderful time of the year. We look forward to curling up by warm fireplaces and hot cocoa. We anticipate seeing family and little surprises. It is a special time of year when everyone seems just a little bit friendlier, so it’s not hard to imagine why December is the most wonderful time of the year.
Here are 10 reasons why I believe Christmastime is the most wonderful time of the year.
10. Christmas Movies.
Hallmark Movies aside, some all time classic movies take place during this season. “Christmas Vacation”, “It’s A Wonderful Life” are just two movies I look forward to this time of year.
9. The Light Displays
What could be better that turning down in off the highway into a festival of lights? From the simple strands of white or blue lights pulled firmly against the gutter to elaborate displays of lights flashing in time to the music, they just makes you smile.
8. Snow Days
With the onset of December comes the potential for snowfall in the northern half of the United States. Fresh snow creating hazardous travel conditions make it just right for sledding, building snowmen, and creating snow and angels and forts. You want relaxation, go for a walk in the woods during a snowfall.
7. Christmas Trees
Speaking of the woods, ever walked around an evergreen forest? That smell is pure delight. In December, we have cart blanche to bring all that pine into our homes.
6. Baking
I don’t care where you are from or your culture. December brings out the best baked goods every where.
5. Surprises
Whether it’s an unexpected gift or seeing a long lost family member, you can always count on a few surprises this time of year.
4. Santa
Go watch a kid when they see Santa. If the kid is over the hurdle of being terrified when you sit them on his lap, you will see pure wonder, joy, and hope.
3. Spending time with people you care about.
We all tend to make time in our busy schedules to see our family and dearest friends this time of year.
2. There is a general feeling of happiness in the air.
Is it because of the cheesy holiday movies and music? Or because we were raised to believe that this time of year is a time for joy and happiness. Regardless of why, people seem to smile a bit easier and we give our neighbors more leeway during the holiday season.
1. There is magic.
I don’t know where is comes from but since I was a young boy, I could always feel the magic. Even when there was less magic to see, there was always magic and I still feel it to this day.
